Israel Cancels All In-Person Classes Nationwide After Iranian Missile Strikes on Dimona, Arad
JERUSALEM (VINnews) — Israel’s Education Ministry on Saturday ordered all in-person schooling suspended nationwide for Sunday and Monday, shifting every student to remote learning with no exceptions, following Iranian ballistic missile strikes that struck the southern cities of Dimona and Arad and injured more than 100 people.
Education Minister Yoav Kisch announced the decision after consultations with the IDF Home Front Command, which has tightened civilian defense guidelines amid the escalating conflict.
“In light of the attacks and following consultation, all exceptions for in-person learning are canceled,” Kisch wrote on X. “Remote learning will take place across the country and in-person learning will not occur.”
The directive covers all students, including those in special education programs and any previously approved in-person activities in lower-risk areas. Authorities plan to reassess the situation ahead of Tuesday.
The strikes marked one of the most significant direct impacts on Israeli territory in the ongoing war, with missiles evading defenses and causing residential damage, building collapses and serious injuries in Dimona—site of Israel’s main nuclear research center—and Arad. Medics reported over 100 wounded, including at least 11 seriously. A separate incident involved cluster munitions damaging an empty daycare in Rishon LeZion.
No students were injured, as the attacks occurred outside school hours. Schools in many regions had already operated under hybrid or remote models due to prior threats, but this marks a full nationwide halt to physical attendance at the start of the week.
