Watch: Video Shows Moment Air Canada Jet Collides With Fire Truck at Laguardia Airport

Mar 23, 2026·2 min read

NEW YORK (VINnews) – Video circulating online appears to show the moment a regional jet operated by Air Canada Express struck a fire truck while landing at LaGuardia Airport.

The footage captures the aircraft moving along the runway before the collision with the emergency vehicle on the tarmac. The crash, which occurred late Sunday, left the aircraft’s nose severely damaged and the fire truck flipped onto its side, according to images from the scene.

Flight data from FlightRadar24 shows the plane approached at about 132 knots (151 mph) at landing, before slowing to roughly 21 knots (24 mph) within a minute as it continued to decelerate after touchdown.

Officials said the fire truck was crossing the tarmac after being cleared to respond to another aircraft that had reported an odor onboard. Air traffic control communications captured before the crash show a controller urgently instructing the truck to stop moments before impact.

The collision killed the pilot and co-pilot and injured several others, authorities said. About 40 passengers and crew members, along with two fire department personnel, were taken to hospitals, with some suffering serious injuries. Most had been released by Monday morning.

The crash shut down LaGuardia for hours, causing widespread flight cancellations and delays as investigators continue to examine what led to the collision.
