2 Brothers Indicted For Impersonating 8200 Unit Soldier, Passing Fake Info To Iranian Agents
JERUSALEM (VINnews) — Two brothers from the Jerusalem area impersonated a soldier in Unit 8200 and passed information to Iranian intelligence agents. The information was revealed on Tuesday morning in an indictment whose details were cleared for publication following a request by Kan News and the “Walla” website.
According to the indictment, which was filed in early February in the District Court in Jerusalem, the two brothers fabricated information and used artificial intelligence software to generate documents and intelligence, which they then sent via Telegram to an Iranian agent known as “David” in return for more than 100,000 shekels.
One of the brothers, the main defendant in the case, used the false identity of a young man whose ID details and photo he had taken from a Telegram app, and impersonated a soldier in Unit 8200. Among other things, he claimed that the date of the planned strike in Iran was supposed to take place in mid-January. He described Israel’s preparations for an attack within hours and quoted a supposed senior military official as saying that “a decision has been made to strike their infrastructure.”
He also told the Iranian agent that Israel was responsible for the death of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi in a helicopter crash in May 2024. When asked to prove this, he used artificial intelligence to create a document that appeared to be from Unit 8200, detailing the helicopter crash and suggesting Israeli involvement.
The two brothers also provided details about an Iranian citizen along with identification documents, claiming he had been involved in the assassination of senior Iranian military officials in the June 2025 operation called “Rising Lion.” The two created a fictional scenario using the AI website Grok about the individual’s involvement, stating that he had participated in surveillance operations targeting those military officials. The Iranian agent later said the individual had been arrested but cleared of suspicion, and that he felt deceived.
The main defendant is charged with contact with a foreign agent, delivering information to the enemy, delivering information that could benefit the enemy, and impersonation. The second brother is charged with jointly delivering information to the enemy. Their identities are under a gag order at the request of their defense attorney, Ariel Attri.
“The indictment is outrageous,” Attri said. “As emerges from the investigation material, these are two Zionist and patriotic brothers who sought to ‘sting’ the Iranians. The Jewish mind invents innovations, as we know, and as loyal sons of the ‘Start-Up Nation,’ they sold the Iranians information they fabricated using artificial intelligence and extracted money from them. Their intention was to harm the enemy and mislead it, and they succeeded. Instead of filing this unnecessary indictment, the state should award them the Israel Prize for their contribution to national security.”
