United Airlines Unveils ‘Relax Row’: Turn Three Economy Seats Into a Cozy Lie-Flat Couch on Long-Haul Flights
CHICAGO/LOS ANGELES (VINnews) – Flying economy on a long international trip just got a bit more comfortable. United Airlines announced today the United Relax Row, a dedicated set of three adjacent Economy seats that transform into a couch-like, lie-flat space after takeoff.
How It Works
The innovative row features individually adjustable leg rests that can be raised to create a flat, mattress-style surface. Passengers can use it for sleeping, stretching out, or simply relaxing — whether you’re a solo traveler, a couple, or a family with small children.
United will provide each Relax Row booking with:
A custom-fitted mattress pad
A plush blanket
Two extra pillows
Families traveling with kids will also receive a stuffed plush toy (and a Children’s Travel Kit on some flights).
Rollout Details
The new feature is scheduled to launch in 2027 and will be installed on more than 200 Boeing 787 Dreamliner and Boeing 777 widebody aircraft by 2030. Each eligible plane will offer up to 12 Relax Row sections (with an average of about nine per aircraft once fully rolled out).65ee95
The Relax Rows will be located in the Economy cabin, positioned between standard United Economy and United Premium Plus seats.
United says it holds North American exclusivity on the design, marking the first time a U.S. carrier is offering this type of convertible economy row for long-haul comfort.ca2d95
Who It’s For
United is marketing the Relax Row to:
Families with young children who need extra space to lounge together
Couples looking for a more intimate setup
Solo travelers who want the rare luxury of a full row to themselves
Availability will be on a first-come, first-served basis (subject to purchase and seat selection at booking or during check-in).
While pricing details have not yet been released, the option is expected to carry an additional fee over standard Economy fares.
This announcement comes as part of United’s broader push to enhance the long-haul Economy experience on its widebody fleet.
