JERUSALEM (VINnews) — The United States struck a large ammunition depot in the city of Isfahan using bunker-buster bombs weighing about 900 kilograms, according to a report today (Tuesday) citing an American official in The Wall Street Journal. According to the source, a large quantity of penetrating munitions was used in the attack, designed to breach fortified facilities and cause significant damage to military infrastructure.

According to estimates, U.S. forces have attacked more than 11,000 targets over the course of a month of fighting in Iran, focusing on sites intended to damage the Islamic Republic’s offensive capabilities and weaken its military systems.

Isfahan, one of Iran’s central cities, is located in the heart of the country, south of the capital Tehran, along the Zayandeh River. It is considered a highly important strategic hub, combining military infrastructure, activity related to Iran’s nuclear program, and national and symbolic significance for the regime.

In the Isfahan province, key facilities linked to Iran’s armed forces operate alongside advanced defense industries. Among them is a major center for nuclear fuel research and production, playing a role in uranium processing. Additionally, Iran’s aerospace industry operates in the area, specializing in aircraft production, helicopter maintenance, and military equipment development.

This combination of factors makes Isfahan one of Iran’s most important strategic centers and a target with broad operational significance in the current conflict.
