NEW YORK (VINnews) — A three-alarm fire tore through multiple businesses in Brooklyn’s Borough Park neighborhood on Sunday afternoon, prompting a large emergency response, officials said.

The blaze broke out at a commercial building at 5311 Fort Hamilton Parkway, where flames spread from a clothing store and extended through the roof of the structure, according to the FDNY.

Initial reports suggested the fire may have started at a nearby e-bike store in the strip, but fire officials said during a press briefing that was not the case. Authorities said the fire instead originated in a neighboring business and then spread.

Officials said 46 units and more than 140 fire and EMS personnel responded to the scene. No civilians were injured, though one firefighter was treated for smoke inhalation.

Authorities told VINnews, that a person of interest was detained for questioning after witnesses reported seeing an individual trespassing in the building prior to the fire. No arrests have been officially announced.

Fire crews were able to contain the blaze to the original structure, preventing further spread. The response led to street closures and significant traffic disruptions in the area.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
