BOROUGH PARK (VINnews) — A 39-year-old man has been charged in connection with a three-alarm fire that damaged multiple businesses in Brooklyn’s Borough Park neighborhood, authorities said.

Police said the suspect, identified as Isidro Aquino, is accused of entering a commercial building on Fort Hamilton Parkway near 53rd Street on Sunday afternoon and starting a fire before leaving the scene.

The blaze spread through a clothing store and extended through parts of the structure. Fire officials initially investigated whether a nearby e-bike business was the source, but later determined the fire began in a different section of the building, according to the FDNY.

Dozens of fire and EMS units responded, bringing a large number of personnel to the scene. One firefighter was treated for minor injuries, and no civilians were reported hurt.

Authorities said the suspect was later taken to a hospital for an unrelated issue and, after being released, returned to the area, where he was detained and taken into custody.

The New York Post reported the suspect has a lengthy arrest record, including at least 15 prior arrests. Officials have not independently detailed his full criminal history.

He faces charges including arson and burglary. Investigators said his motive remains unclear.
