Trump Says New Iran Talks ‘Could Be Happening Over Next Two Days’ In Pakistan
President Donald Trump indicated Tuesday that developments in negotiations with Iran could unfold within days, suggesting a potential shift in where future discussions may take place.
After initially speaking with a New York Post reporter about the prospects for renewed diplomacy between Washington and Tehran, Trump called back with additional remarks pointing to possible movement in the talks.
“You should stay there, really, because something could be happening over the next two days, and we’re more inclined to go there,” he said. “It’s more likely, you know why? Because the field marshal is doing a great job.”
The president was referring to Pakistan’s Field Marshal Gen. Asim Munir, with whom he established ties last year during Pakistan’s brief but intense conflict with India. That confrontation lasted just four days before ending in a ceasefire arrangement brokered with U.S. involvement.
Trump credited Munir’s leadership as a factor influencing the administration’s thinking on the direction of diplomatic efforts.
“He’s fantastic, and therefore it’s more likely that we go back there,” he said.
“Why should we go to some country that has nothing to do with it?”
