
Israeli Yeshiva Student Dies After Netanya Beach Drowning; Brother Still Missing
NETANYA, Israel (VINnews) — A 21-year-old yeshiva student who was pulled from the water after a drowning incident off a segregated beach in Netanya has died, while searches continue for his missing brother, Israeli media reported.
Yissachar Dov (Dubi) Shpigel died after several days in critical condition at Laniado Hospital, following the incident Friday at Chof Tzanz beach, according to reports.
Shpigel, a student at the Tifrach yeshiva and later at a yeshiva in Kiryat Yearim (Telz-Stone), was described by classmates as a dedicated and diligent תלמיד known for his commitment to study and prayer.
The brothers had gone to the beach ahead of the Sabbath while staying in Netanya, when they were caught in distress in the water. Shpigel was rescued and hospitalized in critical condition before succumbing to his injuries.
Search efforts remain ongoing for his brother, Avraham Yishayahu Shpigel, who is still missing.
Shpigel was the son of Rabbi Shlomo Shpigel of Jerusalem and the grandson of veteran Haredi journalist Rabbi Yisrael Shpigel. He is survived by his parents and siblings.
The circumstances of the drowning were not immediately clear.
