R’ Yissachar Dov Spiegel, One Of Two Brothers Who Drowned In Netanya, Passes Away
JERUSALEM (VINnews) — BDE: On Tuesday night, R’ Yissachar Dov Spiegel z”l, one of the brothers who had drowned at the Netanya seashore on the previous Friday afternoon, passed away. He had been hospitalized at the Laniado Medical Center, where he died in the presence of his family, who recited the Vidui.
As previously reported, the family had gone to spend the “bein hazmanim” break in Netanya. The brothers, Yissachar Dov z”l and Avraham Yeshayahu, who is still missing, went to immerse in the sea in honor of Shabbat. Yissachar Dov was hospitalized in critical condition and later passed away, while his brother remains missing.
The funeral procession will take place on Wednesday at 12:00 noon, departing from the family home at 8 HaRav Kahaneman Street in the Ramat Shlomo neighborhood of Jerusalem, proceeding to Har HaMenuchot cemetery, where he will be laid to rest.
Yissachar Dov Spiegel z”l, known as “Dubi,” aged 21, was born on the 9th of Tevet 5765. He was the son of Rabbi Shlomo Spiegel, head of the “Spiegel” study group in the Mir yeshiva, and grandson of the charedi journalist and author Rabbi Yisrael Spiegel z”l. His mother, Mrs. Shoshana Spiegel, is a respected educator at the Rabbi Mayer Seminary in Modi’in Illit. She is the daughter of Rabbi Moshe Yosef Miletsky z”l, one of the senior rabbinical judges in Jerusalem, who resides in Ramat Shlomo, and the sister of Rabbi Chaikel Militsky, head of Yeshivas Rashi.
In his youth, he studied at the “Shira Chadasha” Talmud Torah in Ramat Shlomo, and later transferred in 8th grade to “Chavas Da’as.” He then continued to the “Or Shmuel” yeshiva for younger students, and later attended Yeshivat Tushiya in Tifrach, where he developed his Torah learning under the guidance of the roshei yeshiva, including Rabbi A. Piltz and Rabbi M. Ben Menachem.Last summer, Dubi moved from the fifth-year class in Tifrach to study at Yeshivat Keter Torah in Kiryat Ye’arim (Telz Stone).
His friends from the yeshiva recount with sorrow that Dubi was a standout figure in Tifrach: dedicated, diligent, and constantly striving in his studies. He was one of the pillars of the study hall and a joy to be around.
One friend added: “His prayers were exceptional. He was a complete person in every way. I was his study partner. He was always on time and waiting for me; I never had to wait for him. He was responsible and very thoughtful, and deeply caring for others. In recent days, we’ve seen the kind of home he came from.” A friend who studied with him at “Or Shmuel” said that the staff always relied on him and entrusted him with responsibilities.
The Torah world prayed extensively for his recovery, and many took upon themselves good resolutions, but to the sorrow of all, Dubi returned his soul to his Creator.
He is survived by his parents, siblings, and many friends who are devastated and broken by this tragic loss. May his soul be bound in the bond of eternal life.
