Jeanne Litvin left her Hancock Park home at 7:25 AM on the morning of April 15th. Hatzolah of Los Angeles has been searching diligently for Litvin, working closely with the California Highway Patrol, the Los Angeles Police Department, and numerous volunteers from the Jewish community. Chaverim of Rockland, known for its expertise in difficult search and rescue missions, was asked to join the search on April 19th, with coordinator Yossi Margaretten mobilizing a team of 30 volunteers, who were on a 6 AM flight from Newark to Los Angeles just hours later.
Margaretten told VIN News that there have been no confirmed sightings of Litvin since she walked out of her home last week. Chaverim volunteers have been assisting in the Hatzolah search effort, using high tech equipment to trace Litvin’s steps since the moment she went missing.
“We’re going camera by camera, trying to see where she went,” said Margaretten. “We’ve already seen on the cameras that she looks lost after leaving her house, going back and forth trying to figure out where she is.”
Litvin, who was dressed in a red and black sweater and a black dress on the day she went missing suffers from aphasia, a brain disorder that affects communication. Her family members have said that she is likely unable to tell anyone who she is or where she lives, further hampering the search effort.
Chaverim volunteers have been using every tool in their arsenal in the search effort, with some members canvassing the area to find surveillance cameras that may have valuable footage, while others bringing in specialized equipment to access that footage so that Litvin’s next steps can be tracked.
“It is a very difficult job,” acknowledged Margarettn. “We have people doing search grids. We have people doing cameras. We have people doing drones.”
Even as Chaverim conducts its methodical search, numerous others are continuing their efforts, spreading out through Los Angles in the hopes of finding Litvin, distributing flyers with her picture and running search missions in the city and beyond, which include focusing on public transit lines and the surrounding areas.
Authorities are urging anyone who may have seen her to contact the LAPD’s Wilshire Division. A reward of $10,000 is being offered for information leading to her safe return.
Klal Yisroel is urged to daven for the safe return of Shayna Rochel bas Binya.
