JERUSALEM (VINnews) – The Israel Defense Forces said it recently destroyed an 800-meter-long (2,625-foot) tunnel belonging to the Palestinian Islamic Jihad in the southern Gaza Strip, on the Israeli side of the ceasefire line.

Combat engineers from the elite Yahalom unit discovered weapons and military equipment inside the tunnel, including a rocket, the army said.

The IDF released details of the operation Sunday but did not specify exactly when the tunnel was located and razed. Military officials described the tunnel as a threat that crossed into Israeli territory from Gaza.
