Daniel Luz, a survivor of both the Holocaust and the October 7 massacre, has passed away at the age of 92.

Just last week, in an interview with Yediot Achronot, Luz spoke candidly about his condition, saying, “You see me in the picture happy and smiling, but my health condition is really not good. Soon I will have to return my soul to the Creator, but for the camera I make an effort.”

Luz had recently lit a memorial torch at the Holocaust Remembrance ceremony held at Kibbutz Yad Mordechai, where he lived. During the event, he shared the deep trauma he continued to carry, saying, “I have not yet recovered. Wars don’t bring us anywhere. I would like there to be peace here. I no longer delude myself that I will merit to see it, but that my grandchildren will see it—that is what matters most.”

Having endured the horrors of the Nazi occupation in Europe, Luz later made his home in Kibbutz Be’eri, where he once again faced unimaginable violence during the October 7 attacks. Reflecting on his life, he previously told Ynet, “That is why I am a Holocaust survivor twice—both from France during World War II and from Be’eri in 2023.”

On the morning of October 7, he awoke to the sound of sirens and gunfire. He and his wife, Edna, took shelter in their reinforced room as chaos unfolded outside. “We heard loud gunfire and shouting in Arabic. I felt that this was the day my life would end. I did not feel such fear even during the Holocaust. I have still not recovered from what we went through,” he said.
