TAYBEH, LEBANON (VINnews) – An Israeli soldier was killed and six others were wounded Sunday when Hezbollah launched explosive drones at troops in southern Lebanon, the Israeli military said, marking the third such fatality since a fragile ceasefire took hold.

Sgt. Idan Fooks, 19, of Petah Tikvah, a soldier in the 7th Armored Brigade’s 77th Battalion, was killed in the attack, the IDF announced.

An officer and three troops were seriously wounded, one soldier was moderately hurt and another was lightly injured, according to the military. The attack occurred in the town of Taybeh as forces operated in the area.

While troops were evacuating the wounded, Hezbollah fired two additional explosive-laden drones, the IDF said. One was intercepted, and the second struck nearby without causing further casualties, a military probe found.

Hezbollah claimed responsibility for the initial strike, saying it targeted Israeli troops in response to alleged Israeli violations of the ceasefire agreement.

The incident comes despite the ongoing truce aimed at ending more than a year of cross-border fighting between Israel and Hezbollah. Fooks is the third Israeli soldier killed in southern Lebanon since the ceasefire began.

No further details on the soldiers’ conditions or additional Israeli responses were immediately released.
