Outrage Erupts After Man Dressed as Hitler, Standing on Israeli Flag, Salutes Boston Marathon Runners
BOSTON (VINnews) – The Boston Athletic Association and the Anti-Defamation League of New England on Friday condemned an incident in which a man dressed as Adolf Hitler stood on an Israeli flag and gave a Nazi salute to passing runners during the Boston Marathon.
A video captured by marathon participant Michal Yalovski shows the man raising his right arm in a Nazi salute while saying “happy 4/20,” a reference to both the marathon date and Hitler’s birthday. The man was standing on an Israeli flag laid on the ground.
Yalovski, who was running the marathon, said she routinely looks for Israeli flags along the course for a sense of strength and connection. Her reaction shifted from joy to horror upon realizing what she was seeing.
“I was genuinely happy when I spotted one—until my mind fully processed what I was seeing, and that feeling quickly turned into shock and horror,” Yalovski said. “I was in complete disbelief—frozen, struggling to understand how something like this could be happening. How is it possible to witness such open hatred and antisemitism in 2026, in the United States?”
She filmed the encounter to document the event and said she was disturbed by the lack of immediate reaction from others nearby.
Israeli Consul to New England Benjamin Sharoni denounced the act as “open Jew-hatred.”
“The conduct of the individual exposed in this report is disgusting and beyond the pale. This is open Jew-hatred, plain and simple,” Sharoni wrote on X. “This has no place on the streets of Boston or anywhere else, and must be condemned without reservation.”
The Boston Athletic Association issued a statement Friday strongly denouncing the incident. The Anti-Defamation League of New England also condemned the display as antisemitic and called for authorities to investigate.
No arrests have been reported in connection with the incident.
