WSJ: ICC Prosecutor Told Qatar Would ‘Take Care Of Him’ If He Issued Arrest Warrants To Israeli Leaders
NEW YORK (VINnews) — The troubles have not ended for Karim Khan. The prosecutor at the International Criminal Court requested arrest warrants for Israeli leaders in 2024, shortly after it became known that he had been accused of assault against a court employee, and he has been on leave since May 2025. This month, the court’s governing body voted to initiate disciplinary proceedings. Now, it has emerged that the Qatari government allegedly promised to “take care of” Khan if he acted against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and then–Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.
The Wall Street Journal reported that Israel believes Khan is a Qatari agent. According to a recording and a statement by a source familiar with the court, Khan was hesitant to issue the warrants, and the Qataris told him: “If you do this, then we will take care of you.”
Khan’s lawyer denied the report, claiming that neither the prosecutor nor his team were involved in any such intelligence operation. “Our client was not offered or given (nor would he have sought or accepted) any ‘assurance’ from any state (whether Qatar or any other country) to ‘take care of’ him if he submitted a request for arrest warrants.” Khan “never held discussions with any Qatari official prior to issuing the warrants.”
