Louisiana Soldier Charged Over Alleged Threat to Attack Synagogue, Kill Jews
A 22-year-old soldier stationed at Fort Polk in western Louisiana — now known as Fort Johnson near the Texas border — has been charged in federal court after authorities say he threatened on Discord to carry out a mass shooting at a synagogue and kill Jewish worshippers.
Prosecutors said Jakob Marcoulier was charged by criminal complaint with transmitting a threat in interstate commerce, a charge carrying up to five years in prison. According to court documents, the FBI received a tip in February about antisemitic threats made online, leading agents to recorded audio in which Marcoulier allegedly described plans to enter a synagogue with an assault-style rifle and kill Jews inside.
Federal authorities said Marcoulier was arrested Thursday following an investigation involving the FBI and the Department of the Army Criminal Investigation Division. Officials said the case underscores law enforcement’s efforts to prevent violent hate crimes before they occur.
