Danon: Lebanon Can’t Talk About Sovereignty While Hezbollah Controls the Territory
The United Nations Security Council gathered Tuesday to address ongoing tensions in the Middle East, where Israel’s representative delivered pointed remarks about Lebanon and the role of Hezbollah.
During the session, Israel’s ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon, took aim at what he described as the global community’s handling of the situation, arguing that discussions about Lebanon often ignore a central issue.
“You cannot talk about peace in Lebanon without mentioning Hezbollah. Lebanon will not be able to talk about sovereignty as long as Hezbollah continues to fire on Israeli civilians and operate without interference.”
Danon continued by urging members of the Security Council to press Lebanese authorities more aggressively, saying: “If the Security Council wants to help Lebanon, it should ask the Lebanese government hard questions: how many Hezbollah weapons have been seized, which tunnels have been destroyed, and what is being done to stop arms smuggling from Iran.”
He concluded by stressing that meaningful international backing should be tied to concrete action, not rhetoric. “International support for Lebanon must depend on results on the ground and not more empty statements.”
