Israeli forces have carried out a major operation in recent weeks targeting Hezbollah’s underground infrastructure in southern Lebanon, uncovering and demolishing extensive tunnel systems built with Iranian backing.

According to the IDF, troops working in the Qantara region identified and dismantled two significant tunnels after receiving detailed intelligence. The passageways, stretching a combined distance of roughly two kilometers, were located about 10 kilometers from Israeli communities near the northern border. These tunnels are said to be part of a larger subterranean network exposed during Operation Northern Arrows, much of which had already been taken apart in areas such as Maroun el-Ras and Mays al-Jabal.

Inside the tunnels, soldiers found substantial supplies, including weapon stockpiles, living spaces, water storage, and equipment designed for extended use. The network appeared to function largely as a base for Hezbollah operatives, with one tunnel containing around ten separate sleeping quarters. Additional shafts were discovered linking the tunnels to launch sites aimed toward Israeli territory.

Military officials said the tunnel system was developed over approximately ten years, dug deep below ground level, and financed by Iran as part of Hezbollah’s broader plan to infiltrate northern Israel in a campaign referred to as “conquering the Galilee,” which envisioned attacks on both military personnel and civilians.

Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu addressed the operation, stating, “We blew up today a huge Hezbollah terror tunnel. We are destroying their terror infrastructure, we are killing dozens of terrorists – and there is more to come. We are operating within the security zone, south of the Litani, north of the Litani, and in the Beqaa in northern Lebanon.”

He also disclosed steps being taken to counter another emerging threat, saying, “I gave instruction a few weeks ago on a special project to eliminate the drone threats. It will take time – but we will also blow that up.”
