Bipartisan House Resolution Condemns Antisemitic Rhetoric by Hasan Piker and Candace Owens

WASHINGTON D.C (VINnews) – Reps. Josh Gottheimer, D-N.J., and Mike Lawler, R-N.Y., introduced a bipartisan resolution Wednesday condemning antisemitic rhetoric from far-left streamer Hasan Piker and far-right commentator Candace Owens.

The non-binding measure denounces what it calls “antisemitic hate-filled rhetoric” from prominent online influencers, urges social media platforms to enforce their hate speech policies and calls on community leaders to more forcefully combat antisemitism.

Key accusations against Piker include his support for Hamas, a U.S.-designated terrorist organization; statements such as “Hamas over Israel every single time”; downplaying reports of sexual violence during the Oct. 7, 2023, attacks; and dehumanizing Orthodox Jews.

Owens is accused of promoting conspiracy theories alleging U.S. control by “satanic pedophiles who work for Israel,” invoking blood libels and platforming Holocaust deniers.

“Piker has openly applauded Hamas’ terrorism … Owens has trafficked in vile conspiracy theories,” Lawler said in a statement. “With an audience of millions, they have a responsibility to confront hatred.”

Gottheimer and Lawler, both members of the House Bipartisan Task Force for Combating Antisemitism, emphasized the resolution’s focus on holding influential figures accountable regardless of political affiliation.

Piker dismissed the resolution as “a cynical ploy to satisfy donors.”

The measure is expected to be considered by the House in the coming weeks.
