Karlin-Stolin Announces Scaled-Back Lag BaOmer Plan, Main Events Moved to Givat Ze’ev

Apr 30, 2026·2 min read

The Karlin-Stolin kehillah has unveiled its Lag BaOmer arrangements for this year, introducing major changes due to restrictions at Mount Meron, including relocating most central events to Givat Ze’ev and significantly limiting access to the mountain.

According to the plan, the main gatherings traditionally held at Meron will instead take place this year in Givat Ze’ev. The shift marks a notable departure from past years, when thousands would travel to the site of Rav Shimon bar Yochai’s kever for the annual hilula.

Despite the changes, Maariv on the night of Lag BaOmer will still be held in Meron at the customary location near the top of the mountain, led by the Karlin-Stoliner Rebbe. A tish in honor of the hilula is also scheduled to follow.

However, participation on the mountain itself will be sharply limited. Entry permits will be distributed in very small numbers, with priority given to parents of children celebrating upsherin. Registration is being handled through transportation coordinators in each city, and families are required to submit detailed information about the child, including name, ID number, date of birth, and school.

If additional slots remain, organizers may consider extending access to grandparents, though officials emphasized that the plan could still change depending on decisions by authorities.

The primary Lag BaOmer events will take place later in the day in Givat Ze’ev, at the central Beis Aharon VeYisrael Bais Medrash. These will include a tish, lighting ceremony, and upsherin celebrations, accompanied by live music.
