Iran Believes War “Likely” To Resume With U.S. As Trump Says He’s Not Optimistic About Latest Proposal
President Donald Trump said Saturday he would review a new 14-point peace proposal from Iran but expressed skepticism about its prospects, as a senior Iranian military commander warned that renewed conflict was “likely.”
The proposal, delivered through mediator Pakistan and reported by Iran’s Tasnim and Fars news agencies, calls for ending the war on all fronts, lifting US sanctions and the naval blockade, releasing frozen Iranian assets, paying compensation, withdrawing US forces from areas surrounding Iran, and establishing a new control framework for the Strait of Hormuz.
“I will soon be reviewing the plan that Iran has just sent to us, but can’t imagine that it would be acceptable in that they have not yet paid a big enough price for what they have done to Humanity, and the World, over the last 47 years,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

Speaking to reporters in West Palm Beach, Florida, Trump declined to specify what could trigger renewed military action. “If they misbehave, if they do something bad, but right now, we’ll see,” he said. “But it’s a possibility that could happen, certainly.”
The latest proposal follows Trump’s rejection of an earlier draft submitted Thursday, which he said left him “not satisfied.” He blamed stalled talks on “tremendous discord” within Iran’s leadership.
The war, launched by the United States and Israel in late February, has been on hold since April 8. One previous round of talks in Pakistan failed to produce an agreement.
Mohammad Jafar Asadi, a senior figure in Iran’s military central command, told Fars on Saturday that “a renewed conflict between Iran and the United States is likely,” adding that “evidence has shown that the United States is not committed to any promises or agreements.”
US Central Command chief Adm. Brad Cooper arrived in the Middle East on Saturday to meet with troops aboard the USS Tripoli, an assault ship stationed in the Arabian Sea. Cooper had briefed Trump on Thursday on Washington’s military options against Iran.
