NEW YORK (AP) — Fewer than one-third of Jewish voters in New York City say Mayor Zohran Mamdani is doing a good job, while a larger share rate his performance negatively, according to a new survey highlighted by the New York Post.

The poll, conducted by the advocacy group The Jewish Majority, found that 32% of respondents described the mayor’s performance as “excellent” or “good,” while 40% said it was “poor.” Another 18% rated his performance as “fair,” with the remainder undecided.

The survey also found widespread concern about antisemitism among Jewish voters in the city. A large majority said they are either very or somewhat concerned about rising incidents, and many respondents attributed the increase to public discourse around anti-Zionism, according to the findings reported by the New York Post.

New York City police data cited in the report indicated that hate crimes increased in the early months of the year compared with the same period last year, with more than half of reported incidents targeting Jewish individuals.

Among other findings, a majority of respondents said the mayor’s handling of rhetoric related to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict has contributed to tensions, while many also expressed support for measures aimed at increasing security around houses of worship.

City officials defended the administration’s record, saying the mayor has engaged with Jewish communities across the city and is working on initiatives to address antisemitism.

The poll surveyed 665 Jewish voters who participated in the most recent mayoral election.
