Swastika Graffiti Targets Synagogues, Homes in Queens; Police Search for Suspects

May 4, 2026·1 min read

NEW YORK (VINnews) – Multiple synagogues and private homes in Queens were vandalized overnight with swastikas and other antisemitic graffiti, authorities said Monday.
Local officials, including Lynn Schulman, Phil Wong and New York City Council Speaker Julie Menin visited Congregation Machane Chodosh in Forest Hills — where worshippers arriving for morning prayers encountered the defaced property.

Residents who began their day expecting routine normalcy instead found symbols of hate and intimidation, officials said.

Authorities said they are in contact with the New York Police Department, which is investigating and searching for at least four individuals believed to be responsible. The graffiti is expected to be removed after investigators complete their work.

The incidents come amid a broader rise in antisemitic acts locally and globally. Officials said they will continue to support the Jewish community and work to combat hate.
