Failed Arrest Attempts: Military Police Tried to Detain Bnei Torah in Herzliya, Tel Aviv, and Dimona
Military police carried out several overnight attempts to arrest bnei yeshivos in Herzliya, Tel Aviv, and Dimona.
One of the incidents took place shortly after 4 a.m., when military police officers arrived at the home of a bochur from Yeshivas Chazon Mordechai in Herzliya. Two of the yeshiva’s talmidim were previously arrested by the military police over the past week.
The family members accidentally opened the door, allowing military police officers to enter the apartment and conduct what the family members described as a brutal search of the home.
During the incident, members of the family contacted the “Tzeva Shachor” hotline, an activist network that mobilizes protesters during arrest attempts of bnei yeshivos.
When the commander of the force noticed that the mother was speaking with a representative from the organization, he ordered the officers to withdraw from the scene.
Military police also tried to arrest a bochur in Tel Aviv, a talmid of the Kiryat Malachi yeshiva. However, the bochur was not at home.
Another attempted arrest took place in Dimona, where military police tried to arrest an avreich from the Gerrer community.
In that case as well, family members contacted the “Tzeva Shachor” network, and after local residents arrived at the scene, police forces left the area without carrying out the arrest.
According to the Notnim Gav organization, the latest attempted arrests come in addition to several detentions carried out over the past week.
Among them, the group said, was the arrest of a ben yeshiva at his home in Herzliya on Sunday evening, as well as another draft evader who was handed over to military police by Israel Police officers at a gas station near the exit from Ashdod.
Attorney Shlomo Hadad is assisting the detainees on behalf of the Notnim Gav organization.
