THIRD ARREST: Suspect Taken Into Custody In Attempted Firebombing of U.K. Reform Synagogue

May 7, 2026·2 min read

A third suspect has been arrested in connection with an attempted arson attack targeting a synagogue in north London, as counterterrorism investigators continue probing a series of incidents affecting Jewish sites across the city.

A 19-year-old man was taken into custody Thursday morning at an address in Portsmouth on suspicion of attempted arson. The arrest is tied to the April 15 incident at a synagogue on Fallow Court Avenue in Finchley. Authorities said no damage was caused to the building and no injuries were reported.

The case is being led by Counter Terrorism Policing London, which has been investigating multiple arson-related incidents in recent weeks.

Earlier, a 38-year-old woman and a 46-year-old man were arrested in Watford on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life. Both have since been released on bail until July.

Commander Helen Flanagan, head of Counter Terrorism Policing London, said: “We are continuing to make progress in all our ongoing investigations linked to various recent arson attacks across London.

“Counter-terrorism officers continue to work closely with our colleagues in the Metropolitan Police in response to the incidents. We’re providing protective security advice and support to various organisations, community venues and businesses.

“With the threat level now raised to severe, everyone can play their part to keep themselves and their communities safe. If you have concerns about someone behaving suspiciously, please report it to us. Your information could help us save lives.”

Authorities said that following a March attack on Hatzola ambulances and additional incidents, a total of 30 individuals have been arrested across multiple related investigations. Of those, eight have been charged, including a 17-year-old who pleaded guilty to arson in connection with an incident at Kenton Synagogue.

The most recent case involves an arson attack at a former synagogue in east London earlier this week. Investigators say they are keeping an open mind regarding motive as inquiries continue.
