Peleg Yerushalmi Protesters Clash With Police In Jerusalem, Water Cannons Deployed [VIDEOS]
A protest by Peleg Yerushalmi demonstrators against the arrest of a yeshiva bochur by Israel’s military police erupted Thursday near the intersection of Jaffa Street and Sarei Yisrael in Jerusalem, disrupting traffic and halting light rail service in the area.
According to reports, protesters blocked major roads and the light rail tracks, leading to significant transportation disruptions. Forces from the Jerusalem District Police and Border Police moved in to disperse the crowd and restore order.
Police declared the gathering an unlawful disturbance and ordered demonstrators to leave the area. After protesters refused to comply, officers began clearing the streets using force and water cannons in an effort to reopen traffic lanes and resume public transportation service.
In a statement, police stressed that while freedom of protest is permitted under the law, authorities “will not allow a blatant disruption of public order and freedom of movement,” adding that forces would continue operating “with determination to restore order.”
