Man Arrested After Allegedly Threatening Jewish Bus Passengers With Antisemitic Abuse in London

LONDON (VINnews) — A man was arrested in London on Thursday after allegedly threatening Jewish passengers aboard a city bus with antisemitic slurs and violent threats, according to Shomrim, a Jewish neighborhood watch group.

The incident occurred at about 3:45 p.m. on a Route 254 bus near Jessam Avenue and Upper Clapton Road in Hackney. Shomrim said the suspect shouted remarks including “Shame Hitler didn’t kill you” and “You should all go in the gas chambers,” while also threatening to kill Jewish children and claiming he had a knife.

The bus driver stopped the vehicle and activated the emergency alarm as members of the public intervened, Shomrim said. Volunteers from the organization arrived and detained the suspect until officers from the Metropolitan Police took him into custody.

The incident came amid heightened tensions surrounding protests against Israel. Former New York City Councilmember David Greenfield argued on social media that anti-Israel demonstrators are targeting Israel’s existence as a whole rather than only disputed territories.

“Less than 3% are in disputed ‘occupied territories,’” Greenfield wrote. “They are protesting all 100%. They don’t want Israel to exist. At all.”

His remarks were in response to reports about an Israeli real estate event in New York where at least one table allegedly advertised properties in West Bank communities.
