Netanyahu to CBS: Iran War ‘Accomplished a Great Deal’ But Not Over
JERUSALEM (VINnews)-Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told CBS News’ Major Garrett in a wide-ranging interview that the war with Iran “accomplished a great deal, but it’s not over,” citing remaining enriched uranium, enrichment sites and Iranian proxies that still pose threats.
The interview, broadcast on “60 Minutes” Sunday, May 10, 2026, marked Netanyahu’s first U.S. television appearance since the conflict with Iran began. An extended version is available online.
Netanyahu stressed that highly enriched uranium must be removed from Iran, telling Garrett: “You go in, and you take it out.” He said he and President Donald Trump agree that military re-engagement remains an option if needed, though they prefer non-military pressure.
On the Hezbollah front in Lebanon, Netanyahu said Israel has destroyed more than 90% of the group’s massive rocket arsenal but must still neutralize remaining threats. He expressed hope that weakening Iran could lead to the collapse of its proxy network, including Hezbollah, Hamas and the Houthis.
The prime minister also addressed Israel’s long-term relationship with the United States, saying he wants to phase out American financial military aid — currently $3.8 billion annually — starting now and reaching zero over the next decade.
“It’s time that we weaned ourselves from the remaining military support,” Netanyahu said.
He attributed declining U.S. public support for Israel largely to social media manipulation and propaganda, while acknowledging that mistakes in wartime can occur. Netanyahu defended Israel’s efforts to minimize civilian casualties through warnings and evacuations.
Netanyahu spoke positively about expanding ties with Arab states, saying opportunities for alliances have grown beyond previous expectations due to shared concerns over Iran.
