Port Authority Expands Bicycle Access Across Major Bridges in Rockland Area
By Y.M. Lowy
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is continuing to improve bicycle access across several major crossings connecting New York and New Jersey, including the George Washington Bridge, a key route used by many Rockland commuters traveling into New York City and northern New Jersey.
Recent upgrades include improved bike pathways on the George Washington Bridge, as well as on the Bayonne Bridge and Goethals Bridge.
The Port Authority has also added bicycle parking at select PATH stations and at the Midtown Bus Terminal to help commuters combine biking with public transportation.
Cyclists are currently allowed to use designated bike pathways on the George Washington, Bayonne, and Goethals Bridges. However, bicycles remain prohibited inside the Lincoln Tunnel and Holland Tunnel, as well as on the Outerbridge Crossing.
