President Trump: “100% Confident” Iran Will Agree To Stop Enriching Uranium, Hand Over Material to US
In a radio interview Tuesday morning, US President Donald Trump expressed certainty that Iran will halt its uranium enrichment and turn over its enriched material to the United States.
“We don’t have to rush anything. We have a blockade which allows them no money,” Trump said on Sid Rosenberg’s Sid & Friends show on New York’s TalkRadio 77 WABC. “It’s a very simple thing: we cannot let them have a nuclear weapon, because they’d use it.”
The president emphasized that Washington will not allow Iran to obtain nuclear weapons, warning that if such a weapon “explodes, it would be an unimaginable disaster.”
Trump also claimed that Iran would have already achieved nuclear weapons if his administration had not withdrawn from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) nuclear deal. “If I had not canceled the agreement, they would have had nuclear weapons four years ago,” he asserted. “It was a sure path to nuclear weapons.”
According to Trump, the Iranians have pledged to stop enriching uranium and to “give us the dust” – a term he has repeatedly used to refer to enriched nuclear material like uranium.
The president also touted his “excellent” relationship with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, saying, “We were partners in the truest sense of the word. You wouldn’t have Israel without me.”
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, separately addressing a congressional committee on Tuesday, said Iran has “effectively tried to use the North Korea strategy” of building overwhelming conventional capabilities to deter efforts to stop its nuclear pursuits.
“It took President Trump to have the courage to make that historic decision,” Hegseth said, expressing hope that ongoing negotiations can “get that across the finish line.”
