What could have been a tragic scene today in Wesley Hills ended very differently thanks to one simple piece of safety equipment: a bicycle helmet.

An 8-year-old boy riding a bicycle was struck by a vehicle near Village Green and Route 306, sending emergency responders rushing to the scene. Despite suffering injuries, the child thankfully remained conscious following the crash.

Emergency responders on the scene told Rockland Daily that the child sustained a serious head impact, and without the helmet he was wearing, the outcome could have been devastatingly different, ch”v.

The frightening incident is serving as yet another powerful reminder to parents and children throughout the community about the life-saving importance of helmets while riding bicycles and scooters. One piece of protective equipment may have made the difference between injuries and an unimaginable tragedy.
