IDF Airstrike Kills Hamas Commander Who Took Part in Oct. 7 Nahal Oz Attack
JERUSALEM (VINnews) – An Israeli airstrike in the Gaza Strip last week killed a Hamas commander who participated in the Oct. 7, 2023, terrorist assault on the Nahal Oz military base, the Israel Defense Forces announced.
The strike, carried out last Wednesday, targeted Hamza Sharbasi, a commander in Hamas’s Shejaiya Battalion. Sharbasi posed an ongoing threat to Israeli troops operating in the area, according to the military.
The airstrike also killed Azzam al-Hayya, the 23-year-old son of senior Hamas official Khalil al-Hayya, a chief negotiator for the group. The IDF said Azzam al-Hayya was a member of Hamas’s elite Nukhba Force and had recently held a central role in the organization.
“Recently, Sharbasi operated near the yellow line and, in the framework of his role, worked to advance terror plots against IDF troops operating in the area,” the military said in a statement.

Dozens of Israeli soldiers were killed or abducted during the Hamas terrorist attack on Nahal Oz on Oct. 7, 2023, part of the broader massacre that killed about 1,200 people in Israel and led to the abduction of 251 hostages.
