Rand Paul’s Son Drunkenly Accosts Rep. Mike Lawler With Antisemitic Insults at Capitol Hill Bar

WASHINGTON D.C – William Paul, the son of Sen. Rand Paul, drunkenly accosted Rep. Mike Lawler at a Capitol Hill bar Tuesday night and unleashed a tirade of antisemitic insults, according to the New York Republican congressman and a reporter who witnessed the exchange.

Paul, visibly intoxicated, approached Lawler at the Tune Inn restaurant and bar and blamed “your people” if Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., loses his Republican primary, Lawler told reporters Wednesday on the steps of the Capitol.

“My people?” Lawler responded.

“Yeah, you Jews,” Paul said, according to Lawler’s account.

Lawler, who is Catholic and of Irish-Italian descent, replied that he is not Jewish.

“Oh wow, I’m so sorry for calling you a Jew,” Paul said, before continuing with a roughly 10-minute diatribe in which he called Jews “anti-American” and accused Lawler and his “Jewish supporters” of serving Israel more than America, witnesses said.

Lawler said Paul also expressed hatred for Jewish and LGBTQ people and stated he did not care if they died. At one point, Paul shoved his finger in Lawler’s face before stumbling out of the bar, knocking over a stool.

The confrontation occurred as Lawler was speaking with NOTUS reporter Reese Gorman. Paul identified himself as the Kentucky senator’s son and interjected into their conversation about the upcoming May 19 primary challenge to Massie.

On Wednesday, William Paul posted a statement acknowledging he was drunk and saying he is seeking help for a drinking problem.

Lawler described the incident as “reprehensible” and “f***ing disgusting.”

Neither Sen. Rand Paul nor his office immediately responded to requests for comment. William Paul, a former congressional staffer with prior alcohol-related incidents, has three brothers.

The episode drew swift condemnation from Jewish organizations and pro-Israel advocates, who highlighted rising antisemitic rhetoric amid tensions over U.S. support for Israel and domestic political battles. VINnews will continue to monitor developments.
