TRUMP: Xi Jinping Offered China’s Help To Keep Strait Of Hormuz Open, Won’t Arm Iran
U.S. President Donald Trump revealed that Chinese President Xi Jinping offered Beijing’s assistance in helping keep the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz open amid ongoing tensions involving Iran, the United States, and Israel.
Speaking during an interview with Sean Hannity, Trump also said Xi pledged that China would not provide military equipment to Iran during the conflict.
“He said he’s not going to give military equipment… he said that strongly,” Trump stated.
Trump said Xi expressed interest in seeing the conflict resolved diplomatically and indicated China would be willing to assist in maintaining stability in the region.
“President Xi would like to see a deal made,” Trump said. “He did offer, he said, ‘If I can be of any help at all, I would like to be of help.’”
Trump added that Xi specifically emphasized the importance of keeping the Strait of Hormuz open, a crucial global shipping lane through which a significant percentage of the world’s oil supply passes.
“He’d like to see the Hormuz Strait open,” Trump said.
Trump also appeared to acknowledge China’s significant economic relationship with Tehran, noting Beijing’s major purchases of Iranian oil.
“Anybody that buys that much oil has obviously got some kind of relationship with them,” Trump remarked.
