NEW YORK (VINnews) – — Several Jewish leaders and organizations plan to skip a Jewish heritage celebration hosted by New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani at Gracie Mansion amid ongoing tensions over his criticism of Israel, according to the New York Post.

Among those not attending are leaders from the UJA-Federation of New York and Jewish Community Relations Council of New York, including CEO Mark Treyger, who criticized the mayor’s recent remarks regarding Israel.

Joseph Potasnik of the New York Board of Rabbis also said he would not attend the event.

Other Jewish leaders, including Rabbi David Niederman of the United Jewish Organizations of Williamsburg, said they plan to attend.

City Hall said about 150 people representing different segments of New York’s Jewish community were expected at the gathering and defended the mayor’s outreach to Jewish residents.
