🚨 President Trump Says He’s Canceled Planned Airstrikes On Iran To Give “Serious Negotiations” A Chance

May 18, 2026·2 min read

President Donald Trump said Monday he has been asked by the leaders of Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates to postpone a planned military strike on Iran as diplomatic negotiations accelerate, claiming a broader regional deal could soon emerge.

In a post to his Truth Social platform, Trump said he has instructed Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs General Daniel Caine, and the U.S. military to hold off on the attack that was scheduled for “tomorrow,” instead remaining “prepared to go forward with a full, large scale assault of Iran, on a moment’s notice, in the event that an acceptable Deal is not reached.”

The announcement comes amid the ongoing ceasefire that followed Operation Epic Fury, a joint U.S.-Israel military operation against Iran that began February 28 and concluded May 5, and was marked by hundreds of retaliatory Iranian missiles and thousands of drones across the Middle East.

Trump characterized the negotiations as an opportunity to achieve terms favorable to the United States, emphasizing that any agreement must include restrictions on Iran’s nuclear program. “This Deal will include, importantly, NO NUCLEAR WEAPONS FOR IRAN!” he wrote.

The pause in military operations reflects a delicate moment in weeks of failed diplomacy. A ceasefire took effect in early April, though American-Iranian talks have yet to lead to an agreement. The ceasefire has faced difficulties, with Iran restricting traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic waterway key to global oil flows, and the U.S. imposing a blockade of Iranian ports.

Trump has warned Iran that “the clock is ticking” and threatened the U.S. will hit Iran “much harder than before” if Tehran doesn’t present a better proposal.
