NEW YORK (VINnews) – Metropolitan Transportation Authority and five unions representing Long Island Rail Road workers reached a labor agreement Monday night, paving the way for train service to resume after a disruption that stranded thousands of commuters.

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul announced the deal on social media, calling it a “fair deal” that provides raises for workers while protecting riders and taxpayers.

Hochul said phased LIRR service would begin resuming at noon Tuesday.

Details of the agreement were not immediately released.

The disruption affected commuters traveling between Long Island and New York City, with officials urging riders to monitor schedules as service gradually returns.
