Vance: DOJ Probing Ilhan Omar for Immigration Fraud, Says ‘Something Fishy’ in Marriage Allegations
WASHINGTON D.C (VINnews) – Vice President JD Vance said Tuesday that the Department of Justice is investigating Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., for possible immigration fraud, adding that allegations involving her marriages warrant close scrutiny.
“It certainly seems like something fishy is there” when asked about the probe, Vance said. “I mean, you read the things about Ilhan Omar and about, you know, who she married and whether she didn’t marry this person or that person.”
“We’re going to take a look at it. If we think that there’s a crime, we’re going to prosecute that crime,” he added.
The comments come amid longstanding allegations that Omar, a naturalized U.S. citizen who came to the United States as a refugee from Somalia, committed immigration fraud, including claims that she married her brother to help him obtain citizenship. Omar has repeatedly denied the accusations, calling them baseless and politically motivated.
Vance’s remarks echo earlier statements in which he asserted that Omar “definitely committed immigration fraud against the United States of America” during a podcast appearance. He has discussed potential legal remedies with White House officials, including immigration adviser Stephen Miller.
Omar’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The Minnesota Democrat, first elected to Congress in 2018, has faced multiple controversies over her personal life and campaign finances but has not been charged with any crimes related to immigration. Any potential prosecution would likely involve denaturalization proceedings if fraud in obtaining citizenship is proven.
VINnews will continue to monitor developments in the investigation.
