IDF Soldier Killed, 2 Reservists Wounded in Hezbollah Drone Attack Near Lebanon Border
JERUSALEM (VINnews) – An Israel Defense Forces servicewoman was killed and two reservists were wounded Tuesday when Hezbollah launched explosive drones into a military zone along Israel’s northern border with Lebanon, the military said.
Sgt. Rotem Yanai, 20, a service conditions noncommissioned officer in the Givati Brigade’s Rotem Battalion from Giv’at Ada, was killed as she ran toward a shelter, according to an initial military probe. The second drone seriously wounded one reservist and moderately injured another.
The military said two drones launched by Hezbollah exploded in the border area. Sirens had sounded after the drones were identified, but they were not intercepted.
The incident occurred in a military zone close to the Lebanon border.
Hezbollah has stepped up attacks on northern Israel since the Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas assault that ignited the ongoing war in Gaza. The group has fired drones, rockets and anti-tank missiles at Israeli positions, prompting repeated Israeli retaliatory strikes in southern Lebanon.
