Missing Toronto Jewish Teen at Center of High-Profile Search Found Safe
TORONTO (VINnwews) — A 14-year-old Toronto girl who had been missing for nearly two weeks and was the focus of an intensive search effort has been found safe, authorities said Thursday.
Police sources told local media that the girl, identified as Esther, was located at a home in Etobicoke at around 1 p.m. Investigators were expected to provide additional details during a scheduled afternoon briefing.
The teenager had last been seen shortly after midnight on Friday, May 16, near Bathurst Street and Hotspur Road in North York.
Toronto police launched a rare Level One search operation, deploying multiple units and establishing a command post at Earl Bales Park as concerns grew for the girl’s safety. Authorities previously said Esther is on the autism spectrum.
Hundreds of community volunteers joined the search effort, distributing posters across the city and setting up an additional command post near Wilson Avenue and Bathurst Street. A $25,000 reward had also been offered for information leading to her safe return.
