Hezbollah Launches Around 30 Rockets Towards Northern Israel

May 31, 2026·2 min read

Northern Israel faced a heavy wave of rocket attacks from Lebanon today, with more than 25 launches recorded throughout the day. Among the strikes was a rocket aimed at the Meron region for the first time, while another hit a commercial complex in Kiryat Shmona.

Warning sirens echoed across several northern communities as the attacks intensified. Residents of Nahariya heard rocket alerts for the first time in three weeks. Later, sirens sounded once again in Kiryat Shmona and were activated in Karmiel for the first time in over a month.

Earlier, the IDF warned of the possibility of incoming fire, stating: “The IDF is preparing for the possibility of fire from Lebanon, specifically toward northern Israel, following the advancement of IDF operations in southern Lebanon, and in accordance with the situational assessment.”

The military added: “The IDF emphasizes that, at this stage, the public should remain vigilant, act responsibly while continuing to adhere to the Home Front Command’s protective guidelines. As of now, there is no change in Home Front Command guidelines. Should there be any change, the IDF will update the public in an orderly manner.”

Following the activation of the sirens, the IDF Spokesperson reported that one rocket fired from Lebanon was intercepted by Israel’s air defense systems, while another landed in an open area. Additional rockets launched toward Nahariya and nearby communities were also intercepted, while others fell in uninhabited areas.

Later in the evening, rockets headed toward Kiryat Shmona and Karmiel were successfully shot down. Earlier in the day, around 3:30 p.m., residents across the Western Galilee endured nearly ten consecutive minutes of sirens amid fears of a hostile drone infiltration.

Military officials said that since midnight, more than 25 rockets had been launched from Lebanon into Israeli territory. Aside from a rocket that struck Kiryat Shmona overnight and a drone that impacted a military zone near Shomera, all of the projectiles were either intercepted or landed in open areas. No injuries were reported.
