JERUSALEM (VINnews) — Two teenage girls were injured Sunday in a car-ramming attack at the Gush Etzion Junction in the West Bank, ending months of relative calm in the area, Israeli authorities said.

A 17-year-old girl was seriously wounded and a 15-year-old girl suffered moderate injuries when a vehicle struck pedestrians near the junction. A third person was treated for shock.

The suspected attacker was shot and killed by a soldier from the Israeli military’s Kfir Brigade, officials said.

Emergency responders treated the victims at the scene before transporting them to hospitals. Following the attack, Route 60 near Gush Etzion was closed in both directions, causing significant traffic disruptions.

Gush Etzion Regional Council head Yaron Rosenthal described the incident as a “difficult attack” and said a group of teenagers had been targeted. He praised security forces for quickly neutralizing the assailant.

Israeli security forces were investigating the attack.
