LAM, Germany (VINnews) — A hotel in the German state of Bavaria has been removed from Booking.com after Israeli travelers reported receiving a message rejecting their reservation request because they were Jewish.

According to a report by Yedioth Ahronoth, the Israelis were attempting to reserve accommodations at the Hotel Zum Hirschen near the town of Lam, close to Germany’s border with the Czech Republic, when they received a message stating that Jewish guests were not permitted at the property.

The travelers filed complaints with Booking.com and contacted Israeli diplomatic officials in Munich. Following a review of the incident, Booking.com removed the hotel from its platform.

Israeli consular officials said the hotel initially denied responsibility for the message but later acknowledged that it had been sent by one of its employees. Authorities in Bavaria have since been notified and are reviewing the matter to determine whether legal action is warranted.

The incident has drawn condemnation from Israeli officials. Israel’s consul general in Munich compared the episode to discrimination seen in pre-World War II Europe and welcomed the hotel’s removal from the booking platform.

The case has been referred to Bavaria’s commissioner for combating antisemitism for further review. It remains unclear whether formal proceedings will be initiated.

The incident was first reported by Yedioth Ahronoth.
