US Says Iran Agreement Scheduled For Sunday, Israel Warns Of Dangers To Its Security
NEW YORK (VINnews) — U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Saturday that a framework agreement with Iran is scheduled to be signed tomorrow. According to the report, the memorandum of understanding would open a future 60-day negotiation process regarding Iran’s nuclear program. At the same time, the Strait of Hormuz would be reopened and the U.S. blockade on Iranian ports would be lifted.
Senior Israeli officials who are not associated with the Prime Minister’s office, issued on Saturday night what they describe as an extremely serious warning regarding the proposed framework agreement between the United States and Iran. According to a report by journalist Yaron Avraham on Channel 12 News, the officials argue that the agreement endangers some of Israel’s most fundamental security interests.
“The Iranians are not agreeing to this framework for no reason. The American side accepted their main conditions,” the officials were quoted as saying.
According to them, the agreement would have immediate and serious consequences: “There is something here that will happen immediately: the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, the revitalization of the regime, and a slap in the face to the Iranian public. What may happen afterward, under a policy of ‘paying on credit,’ is treatment of Iran’s nuclear capabilities.”
The officials drew what they described as a troubling comparison to the Gaza ceasefire framework: “This is the same framework as the agreement to end the war in Gaza. Ask yourselves what happened to the commitment to disarm Hamas.”
They raised a central concern: “What will be the Americans’ real leverage if, after 60 days of a ceasefire, the Iranians do not begin taking the steps required of them? The credible military threat has been worn down to almost nothing.”
The Israeli officials’ sharpest criticism focused on what they described as a gap between Israel’s objectives and the actual content of the agreement.
“Removing the uranium has become diluting the uranium, and the missile program is not part of the agreement at all. None of the goals Israel set receive an immediate answer in this agreement.”
According to the officials, the most serious problem is that the agreement would effectively strengthen Iran and its proxy organizations:“Not only is Iran not required to stop supporting its proxies, but the agreement reconnects it with Hezbollah.”
According to details published about the agreement, Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry told Al Jazeera that a signing ceremony is expected to take place tomorrow (Sunday) in Islamabad, with the agreement to be signed remotely online.
At the same time, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei reportedly stated that, under the agreement, Tehran would collect “payment” for services allegedly provided in the Strait of Hormuz.
