JERUSALEM (VINnews)-Defense Minister Israel Katz has appointed Brig. Gen. Hisham Ibrahim as his new military secretary, the Defense Ministry announced Sunday.

Ibrahim, who currently serves as head of the Civil Administration, replaces Maj. Gen. Guy Markizeno. Markizeno was recently named military secretary to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Ibrahim is one of the most senior Druze officers in the Israel Defense Forces. He previously commanded the Armored Corps.

In a statement, Katz said he informed IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir of the decision. Ibrahim will assume the role immediately.

“I am convinced he will fulfill the important role with great success during a challenging and significant security period for the State of Israel,” Katz said.

The appointment comes amid ongoing security challenges facing Israel, including operations against Iranian-backed terror groups. Ibrahim’s extensive combat and command experience is expected to strengthen coordination between the defense minister and the military.
