IDF Chief of Staff: Military Monitoring Developments After Beirut Strike on Hez

Jun 14, 2026·2 min read

JERUSALEM (VINnews)-Israel’s military is closely monitoring regional developments and maintaining high readiness following a strike on Hezbollah in Beirut, IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir said Sunday.

“We are closely monitoring developments while maintaining vigilance and a high level of readiness across all arenas,” Zamir said during a meeting with commanders at the Northern Command. “The current reality is sensitive and complex. The entire IDF is determined, alert, prepared, and operating at varying intensities across all sectors.”

Zamir emphasized that Lebanon remains the primary focus but that the military is also preparing for potential developments elsewhere.

“Lebanon is our main center of gravity, but we are also preparing for developments in other arenas,” he said.

The chief of staff added that further operational achievements would continue to erode Hezbollah’s capabilities in southern Lebanon and strengthen future security arrangements.

“Every additional operational achievement we achieve will lead to the continued erosion and disintegration of Hezbollah’s southern front and to the improvement of the security arrangements that will be determined as part of the negotiations mediated by the United States between the political leadership and the Lebanese government,” Zamir said.

At the meeting with division and brigade commanders, Zamir approved new battle plans for Lebanon, the military said.

The comments come hours after Israel’s strike targeted Hezbollah in the Lebanese capital. Israeli officials have not immediately provided further details on the operation. Hezbollah has not yet commented publicly on the strike.
