DIPLOMATIC PUSH: U.S.-Iran Talks Resume In Switzerland As Lebanon And Strait Of Hormuz Dominate Agenda
Diplomatic efforts surrounding the ongoing U.S.-Iran negotiations continued Sunday in Switzerland, where U.S. Vice President JD Vance met with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir on the sidelines of the talks.
Shortly afterward, Iran’s Foreign Ministry confirmed that Iranian and American delegations are scheduled to participate in a four-party meeting later in the day alongside Pakistani and Qatari mediators. According to Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei, the day began with separate meetings between Iranian officials and representatives from Pakistan and Qatar before the broader session.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi also met with Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis, marking the Iranian delegation’s first official engagement after arriving in Switzerland.
Baghaei said the conflict in Lebanon will be a central issue during the discussions with the United States, alongside talks regarding frozen Iranian funds and Iranian oil sales. He accused Israel of continuing to violate its commitments in Lebanon and indicated that the matter would be a primary focus of the negotiations.
The diplomatic meetings come as tensions remain elevated in the Persian Gulf. According to Fars News, the Strait of Hormuz remains closed, with the IRGC Navy continuing to withhold clearance for vessel transit until further notice.
