Major Upgrades Underway at Stony Point Battlefield as Museum Remains Closed
Visitors to Stony Point Battlefield may have noticed construction fencing surrounding portions of the historic site since last November. Officials have now shared details and images showcasing significant progress on a major improvement project currently underway.
The work includes the construction of a brand-new patio, entrance ramp, upgraded lighting, improved pathways, and updated handicap-accessible parking, all designed to enhance the visitor experience and accessibility at the historic battlefield. While no reopening date has yet been announced for the museum, crews continue to make steady progress on the project.
Despite the ongoing construction, preparations are continuing for events marking America's 250th anniversary. Officials announced that the battlefield's planned Independence Day celebration will be modified and held at a temporary camp location near the lighthouse while work continues around the museum.
Additional details regarding the celebration are expected to be released in the coming days.
