An IDF officer fell in a battle with Hezbollah terrorists in southern Lebanon overnight, the IDF announced on Sunday morning.

He was identified as Cpt. Dovid Hazut, H’yd, 21, from Ashkelon. He served as a platoon commander in Battalion 12 of the Golani Brigade.

The incident occurred on Motzei Shabbos at about 2 a.m. when Golani soldiers operating in a southern Lebanese village encountered a Hezbollah terrorist, who opened fire on them. Cpt. Hazut was killed instantly, and another soldier was lightly injured in the incident.

The other soldiers returned fire, but the terrorist managed to escape the scene. The IDF later attacked the area with artillery fire to neutralize additional threats.
